No. Cherry Blossom Hi Collection by Romy Northover

I have put the new No. Spring Collection up in the KATAKANA store The Hi Collection is a series of thrown pots in white stonewear. The glaze has gentle pink blush. The Cherry Blossom Hi collection was created specifically to go with the KATAKANA event in Randall's Island NYC. Shino and I will be making Cherry Blossom Salt and doing a Demonstration on how to do so at the 'Hanumi' Cherry Blossom Festival

'Sakura' - Cherry blossom is washed, pickled in plum vinegar and then salted and the result is this extremely delicate beautiful edible flower which can be used in cooking or in tea. We started by picking the blossom last week and it is a 10 day process... we are super excited to see the results on Friday.

STAHL House LA by Romy Northover

We found out on Saturday night that there was a viewing of the famous Stahl House Case study 22 designed by the architect Pierre Koenig.

We came at dusk. high up in the hills and quiet. There was a bird of pray circling. It didnt feel like being in a city somehow but it was folded out infront of us shimmering cinema history.

Tortoise LA by Romy Northover

A friend reccomended I visit Tortoise General Store in Abbot Kinney LA.

It is full of Japanese housewear, kitchen wear etc. They have a really incredible gallery space out the back - with artists working in ceramics, wood and glass.

These are the Tenugui (手拭い) that came home!

LA Colour Study by Romy Northover

I Visted LA for the first time this weekend. We have had California on our mind for a while so it felt like the right time to go. These pictures I took out and about in Venice. A very stark contrast from New York. Such incredible colour is possible on the west coast...

New KATAKANA Walnut Collection 'KURUMI' by Romy Northover

Shino and I have made our first KATAKANA products out of wood.'Kurumi'is Japanese for Walnut. Each piece is hand finished with mineral oil to bring out the deep texture of the walnut.

The clean edges and sharper lines we are able to make with wood seems like the perfect companion to our hand made ceramics.
